James White Addresses Harold Camping AND 21 Oct. 2011 the End of the World

Apologist and Scholar, Dr. James R. White of Alpha and Omega Ministries, an individual who has debated Harold Camping, has written an open letter to Harold Camping, which can be found below. I do pray that Camping heeds these words…but as I sit here and listen to him this evening, it doesn’t look like he will/is. Point-in-fact, I believe that he is at this moment, reinforcing his Oct. 21, 2011 “FINAL DAY“prophecy.

UPDATE: One word says it all…Heretic. Oct. 21, 2011 is now the day that the great earthquakes are going to happen, a certain back-slide and contradiction from his statements just three days ago. And now, he just denied the doctrine of Hell and eternal judgment. He has also reinforced his heretical teaching of the church, the bride of Christ, being apostate. Amazing! And so, the name of Christ continues to get drug through the mud because of this Heretic

He now just stated that “There is no church who believes that all the words of the Bible came from the lips of God in their original language.” Uhhhhh…the documents of the New Testament are “dual authored” Mr. Camping, God spoke through man…so yes, of course we believe that the words of the Bible…ALL OF THE WORDS OF THE BIBLE, are Theopneustos, or, GOD BREATHED (2 Tim. 3:16).

CAMPING TALKING POINTS:

      • On May 21, 2011, he stated that judgment is now in view.
      • God brought judgment on the world on May 21, 2011.
      • No further people can be saved past 21 May, 2011.
      • He just stated that he will no longer talk about judgment day (how convenient).
      • All of the events are “spiritual” UNTIL 21 Oct. 2011.
      • Camping just stated that all of his dates ARE correct.
      • God came on 21 May, 2011 in a spiritual manner (despite his comments prior to May 21).
      • His teaching will now consist of Bible teaching for the “children of God”because no one can be saved past 21 May, 2011.
      • Camping stated that he takes no responsibility for people who have sold all of their possessions, or, for those who have attempted to or have committed acts of violence because of his failed prophecy.
      • Family Radio does not intend to return the millions of dollars that were given to him for the propagation of the 21 May, 2011 end days prophecy. Says it will now be used until the end of the world, which takes place on 21 Oct. 2011.
      • Camping just stated that Hindu’s and Muslims can be saved…“they don’t have to know about the Bible…they just have to know that God has spoken and [proclaim] God have mercy on me.”
      • When addressing the many people who have lost their homes, money or assets, because of his failed prophecy, Camping claimed “People cope…”
      • Camping stated that he is not worried that he may have “made a mockery” of the Bible…stated that he has not hurt the credibility of the Bible.

And so, Camping has done what all of the other CULTS do, he has spiritualized his prophecy and made it un-falsifiable and immune to evidences. All of this falls right in line with the Jehovah’s Witnesses, who time after time have made false prophetic announcements on the end days. Deut. 18:20 states;

But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die. (Deut. 18:20, ESV)

Camping should be glad that we do not live in a Theonomic state…

An Open Letter to Harold Camping of Family Radio

An Open Letter to Harold Camping of Family Radio

05/23/2011 – James White

On Open Letter to Harold Camping of Family Radio

Dear Mr. Camping:

In July of 2009 you and I engaged in a debate on the Iron Sharpens Iron radio program concerning your teaching that the church age had ended and that Christ would return on May 21, 2011.  I trust you recall our exchange.  I am also aware that you have at least seen my book, Dangerous Airwaves: Harold Camping Refuted and Christ’s Church Defended.  I have been seeking to warn people about your teachings, sir, for about a decade.  I know others have been warning the church about you longer than I.

Mr. Camping I am writing to seek your repentance and the most God-glorifying outcome of the debacle of your failed May 21, 2011 prophecy/teaching.  I am not writing to engage in debate with you.  The time for debate ended on May 22, 2011.  It is now time for you to repent and seek to undo the massive damage you have done, first and foremost, to the cause of Christ.

Let me first list the items you need to repent of, openly and publicly (for you are a public person, and your teachings were disseminated all around the world).

You need to repent of your abuse of the Bible, based upon claims of latter-day opening of understandings no one else has, allegedly, ever had, based upon the horrific misreading of the books of Revelation and Daniel.  The Bible is not a code book, Mr. Camping, and it never has been.  You have attacked the grammatical/historical means of honoring the intention and meaning of the original authors, and in so doing, have turned the Bible into your own private playground where you, and you alone, set the rules.  You decided that certain numbers have certain meanings, and you alone decided which numbers could be added to others.  You told your audiences that you were simply teaching the Bible, when you were doing nothing of the sort.  Unless you honor the intention of the original authors, which means doing difficult exegetical work, studying languages and backgrounds, you have no business saying you are representing the Bible.  This has been your primary error for decades on end, and I know I am not the first minister of the gospel to seek to correct you about this.  Your utterly fallacious means of interpretation of the Bible has led to the mockery of the Christian faith all around the world, and you alone must repent for your willful rejection of the correction offered by many to you over the years.

You need to repent of your repeated date-setting, and your twisting of those Scriptures that plainly state that we do not now know, and will never know, the date of the coming of Christ, until it happens.  You have been proven wrong multiple times now, and it is time for you to admit that you have been in error every single time you have argued that we can, in fact, know.

You must repent of your many unbiblical teachings, teachings which have grown out of your rebellion against Christ’s Church.  First and foremost, you must repent of your attack upon the church.  You must return to the church (I would suggest the local Christian Reformed Church from which you made your original defection) in repentance and seek to place yourself under their care, repenting for your schism.  You must openly and publicly abjure your teaching that Satan rules in the churches, and that all ministers of the gospel since 1988 are, in fact, servants of Satan.  You must call all listeners of Family Radio to return to their churches with repentant hearts.  You must instruct them to seek to learn to read the Bible aright, to seek to interpret the Bible in light of its original meanings and intention, not as a secret, gnostic code-book.

You must likewise abjure and repent of the other false teachings you have been promulgating, including, but not limited to, such teachings as Jesus having died twice, your new annihilationism teaching, etc.  You once held to mainly orthodox views, but, when you refused godly counsel and went out on your own, you planted the seeds of your own destruction, which have now sprouted, over night it seems, into the crop of condemnation you now rightly face.

You must likewise repent of the perversion of the gospel you have been teaching, wherein you have not only removed repentance and faith under the guise of “works” (neither are works, both are the gifts of God to His elect by His Spirit, but remain part and parcel of the gospel call), but you clearly, in these last days, added belief in your own May 21, 2011 teaching to the gospel itself, saying that those who did not believe this teaching would experience eternal torment.  You have been preaching a false gospel, Mr. Camping, and you must repent for this.

The time for haggling and debating has passed, Mr. Camping.  Your teaching has been disproven, and your only hope is to be found in complete repentance from your false teachings.  I fear if you seek to rescue your reputation, you will end your life under the wrath of God.  Your unwillingness to listen to counsel has already caused great damage to the cause of Christ.  You have one final chance for redemption, sir.  Do not remain stiff-necked.  Repent and turn from your ways.

  1. I just listened to Dr. White’s ISI discussion yesterday http://mp3.sharpens.org/20110523ISI.mp3
and this letter. He nailed it! I fell into the May 21 belief in the last few weeks. Not sure how or why, but did. I woke up the other day with some of Mr. C’s famous verses to quote and it scared me to my knees,

Mat_24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

2Co_11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

I am praying for forgiveness, mercy, and strength for me,my family, those still following this and the lives of those affected.

I never agreed with the “if you don’t believe May 21 then you’re not saved”. That makes us the judge or lends to a works gospel. I never could share that with anyone. And now he just told ~6.7 billion people that they cannot be saved. He will now be saying on the open forum essentially that there is no reason for anyone in the world to seek Christ, cry for mercy, study the bible… because the door is shut. He may not use those words, but that is now implied.

    • Thank you for your comments. God is indeed, quick to forgive those who come to Him with the empty hand of faith, and I thank you for telling your story on this issue. Question: are you involved with or a member of a church? Or, have you fled the church, as Camping told his followers to do?

  2. Recently, post May 21, 2011, I listened with great interest and joy to your debate with Mr. Camping a few years ago. Thank you for demonstrating your devotion and passion for pursuing the truth. I was so pleased to hear you clearly outline and describe the subjective nature and the overt rationalization of his unsound Biblical teaching. I’m confident the Holy Spirit used your words to help many of those that had listened. For those that have been harmed or disheartened I will join with you in upholding these little ones in Christ.
I trust you will find the following personal short story uplifting and affirming. A number of years ago, as I was driving home from work, I attentively listened to Mr Camping describe his beliefs on Open Forum. When I arrived home I discussed Campings beliefs with my wife, who had previously listened to him and was very disturbed by what he taught and the negative changes to the programing on Family Radio.
As we shared our thoughts I told my wife that
Campings theology was in error because his interpretation of scripture was subjective and was founded on allegory and numerology. This has and will never work when it comes to interpreting the truth and reality of scripture and might I add Life.
Hearing you state these realities in part one of the debate was refreshing and affirming, to say the least.

As the years passed I continued to listen and pray for him. Fast forward to the early morn of May 21, 2011. I Googled a Earthquake advisory website and when the site indicated that New Zealand had not experienced an earthquake, I joyfully told my wife that her desire for Camping’s 21’s date to be wrong had been fulfilled.
On a more serious note. I was deeply saddened by the reality of what the negative consequences of Camping’s teaching would be on many of our brothers and sisters in Christ. This drove me to prayer for these folks as well as Mr Camping.
Two days later, the 23rd, I was reading a web site about Camping and discovered a fellowship in northern Pa. that had supported him, taught his message of May 21, as well as acted on his message by taking a caravan of vans and sign carrying disciples into neighboring towns and city’s.

After viewing this Fellowship web site and one teaching video, I emailed the site and told them that I was concerned for them and deeply disturbed by Camping’s prideful, unrepentant attitude and words on his May 23 Open Forum press interview.
I then went on to encourage them, no implored them to turn away from those that used allegory, metaphor and numerology to interpret the Word of God.
I encouraged them to turn to the literal truth, reality and understanding of the scriptures by turning away from Camping’s teachings because he had brought reproach upon Christ’s name and his word.

To illustrate this, I asked the following question. How so? I went on to ask, What would you think and say to someone who had clearly misinterpreted and distorted what you, or your wife, had clearly stated about how you would care for your children? Like wise, What would you think and say about someone who told others that you said or did something that you clearly did not say, do or believe?

Then I said, Camping had brought reproach on Christ because he had made his own word / teaching superior to what Christ literally stated when He said, no man knows the the day nor the hour of His coming, not Him nor the Angles but only the Father knows the day and Hour. This literally means and includes you, me and Camping.
I closed my letter by encouraging them to continue to seek the truth of God’s literal Word, and I would be praying for them during this difficult time of searching.

I trust this email has encouraged you to hold to the truth and keep on keeping on.
    George
