Mr. Mormon, Please Know That You Have No Good Works

Today in class, I took the students over the doctrines of the LDS church. One of the area’s we focused on was the LDS teachings of works righteousness and how being a “good Mormon” equals works of righteousness. No where is this teaching more obviously seen than in 2 Nephi 25:23 which reads; “For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do” (2 Nephi 25:23: Book of Mormon). In contrast to this is the true Biblical doctrine of mans corruption and his or her utter dependence of the mercy and grace of God. Man is sinful and God is Holy, Righteous and Good. We have no good works to offer God and hence, we must hold out the empty hand of faith in order to be saved. A concept which is demonstrated well by Dr. Voddie Baucham below.
